PRIMO Implementation at the British Library
by Mandy Stewart, Resource Discovery Projects Manager, British Library
The British Library is implementing PRIMO and as a national library has different issues from university libraries. We also have some unique catalogues that we are planning to load including the National Sound Archive and our new Archives and Manuscripts database. The presentation will give information on how the project has progressed, any major issues we encountered and future plans. I will also include something about managing iterative projects as this is becoming a more common way of running IT projects and the BL have discussed how this differs from standard implementation projects and the problems it presents. Finally I would like to mention something about how PRIMO customers can provide feedback into the future development of the product – the enhancement process if you like – as I think this needs to be more immediate than the current process for other products.

SUPrimo at the University of Strathclyde: a case study
by Nick Joint, Head of Reference and Information, University of Strathclyde
This presentation will summarise the broad range of reasons for our decision to implement PRIMO. We will give some insights into our assessment of PRIMO’s functionality, describing how PRIMO fits in with recent strategic initiatives aimed at re-invigorating the Library service at Strathclyde with enhanced digital content, to be made available via a radically improved search and retrieval mechanism (PRIMO, with a planned later installation of Metalib). We will also look at and analyse our initial steps in setting up PRIMO, which includes considerations of interface design and decisions about mapping PRIMO onto our local information environment.

DigiTool as SFX target
by Matthias Gross, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek Bibliotheksverbund Bayern / Verbundzentrale Virtuelle Bibliothek Bayern
The Resource Discovery module of DigiTool works by its design as SFX source. But it would be at least as important to have DigiTool as SFX target, so that digital objects can be linked to from external bibliographic references. We investigate the requirements for a range of digital objects including E-journals and discuss whether they can be met with the current software versions.
Digital Repository – making use of handles
by Kevin Nguyen, Systems Development & Integration, The University of Melbourne, Australia
The University of Melbourne recently introduced DigiTool as its preferred application for the delivery of its Digital Repository, with the aim of consolidating a number of digital collections and providing a means through which digital items can be stored and backed up securely. The Digital Repository enables searching and retrieval through a variety interfaces and provides controlled access to resources based on the user’s level of authorisation and the copyright and licensing conditions which apply to the digital item. With increasing demand to provide persistent identifiers for digital objects, the University was previously given the opportunity to participate in the beta testing of DigiTool Service Pack 16 which introduced handle generation and publishing functionality. In this paper we will cover the implementation process for setting up and replicating handle servers, how we exposed the handles via Resource Discovery and also take a look at how we generated handles using web services that we developed to integrate our research management
system.

Strengths and limitations of Digitool to participate in projects of an international nature.
By Bárbara Guiomar Muñoz de Solano Palacios, Digital Library Biblioteca Nacional de España This presentation will highlight such advantages of Digitool as use of international standards (OAI, Z39.50, and http); the broad management of digital objects (a repository of digital objects, organization, easy access and modifications of associated metadata); the importance of the Digitool collection manager function and finally the products it offers to the end user through its online catalogue (My space or broad text search possibilities). Among its limitations we will consider improvements the display, the statistics and the ingest of complex objects.
