One of the great benefits of IGeLU membership and annual conference attendance is the sharing of user experiences among the membership, generating ideas and learning innovative practices. User presentations are a significant contribution and help create a programme that is more than just about Ex Libris products – it’s about how they are used and who uses them! IGeLU is pleased to invite proposals for presentations and posters at its 7th annual conference at ETH-Zurich in Switzerland on 11-13 September 2012. Information and links are here on the IGeLU website, and on the dedicated conference website. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: 1 April 2012 TARGET FOR ACCEPTANCE: 1 June 2012 Topics: Proposals may cover any of the Ex Libris products, the interactions between them, and their interoperation with other systems. We are interested in users’ experiences of Alma; Aleph and ARC; Voyager; Discovery Solutions (Primo, Primo Central Index, MetaLib, MetaLib+); SFX and bX; Verde and UStats; DigiTool and Rosetta. Proposals may also cover topics that relate to the wider development of library and information systems within the context of Ex Libris products, e.g.: Innovative use of products Integration of products with each other or with external systems Innovation in [...]

The new Linked Open Data Special Interest Group, which was launched following the special Linked Open Data session at the IGeLU 2011 conference, will have its first face-to-face meeting in Amsterdam on February 1st 2012. The group currently consists of Kai Eckert (Mannheim University Library, Germany, Coordinator), Markus Knitel (Austrian Library Network and Services Ltd, Austria), Lieke Verhelst (Wageningen UR Library, The Netherlands) and Silke Schomburg (HBZ Library Consortium, Germany), supported by Steering Committee member Lukas Koster (Library of the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands ). The group will discuss strategies to go forward, division of tasks and responsibilities and ideas for sessions at the IGeLU 2012 conference in Zürich. The group still needs volunteers, and in particular we’re looking for people from outside Europe, and/or with some involvement in Alma, so if you are interested, please contact Lukas Koster (l.koster {at} uva(.)nl var mailNode = document.getElementById('emob-y.xbfgre@hin.ay-62'); var linkNode = document.createElement('a'); linkNode.setAttribute('href', "mailto:%6C%2E%6B%6F%73%74%65%72%40%75%76%61%2E%6E%6C"); tNode = document.createTextNode("l.koster {at} uva(.)nl"); linkNode.appendChild(tNode); linkNode.setAttribute('id', "emob-y.xbfgre@hin.ay-62"); mailNode.parentNode.replaceChild(linkNode, mailNode); ) Lukas Koster, IGeLU Steering Committee

Rosetta was first presented to the IGeLU community at the Madrid Conference in 2008, and from that point the Digitool PWG has had primary responsibility for the product within IGeLU. Initially that was through liaison with the Ex Libris Product Managers, and last year in Haifa we also got the first two presentations from the growing community of Rosetta users. The IGeLU Steering Committee is always open to requests to form a new Product Working Group if there is sufficient demand – for now, however, IGeLU has created a specific product mailing list (rosetta-discuss-l {at} listserv.nd(.)edu var mailNode = document.getElementById('emob-ebfrggn-qvfphff-y@yvfgfrei.aq.rqh-77'); var linkNode = document.createElement('a'); linkNode.setAttribute('href', "mailto:%72%6F%73%65%74%74%61%2D%64%69%73%63%75%73%73%2D%6C%40%6C%69%73%74%73%65%72%76%2E%6E%64%2E%65%64%75"); tNode = document.createTextNode("rosetta-discuss-l {at} listserv.nd(.)edu"); linkNode.appendChild(tNode); linkNode.setAttribute('id', "emob-ebfrggn-qvfphff-y@yvfgfrei.aq.rqh-77"); mailNode.parentNode.replaceChild(linkNode, mailNode); ) to act as a forum for Rosetta customers to talk with each other about the product, and to replace the general discussion mailing list from ExLibris. This is perhaps a stepping stone towards a fully-fledged PWG. Any Rosetta current client (IGeLU member or not) can be part of the list – subscription information is available online. The DigiTool PWG will continue to follow Rosetta development and Matthias Gross (Bayerische StaatsBibliothek, Germany) will act as liaison with Ex Libris over Rosetta issues.
Last year’s Digitool enhancement request process has been concluded and formal feedback from Ex Libris has been sent to the user community. These enhancements are expected to be distributed as part of the quarterly service packs (along with those remaining from the previous enhancements list). At the last IGeLU Conference in Haifa, Ex Libris confirmed that the company would continue to support DigiTool as a separate piece of software, but with no further version upgrades. The PWG, on behalf of the customers, asked Ex Libris to clarify this roadmap, and the company has confirmed that existing DigiTool clients will be upgraded to Alma Digital with no loss of functionality. The only additional cost will be a hosting fee. It isn’t clear yet how Alma Digital will work as a cloud application, but IGeLU will continue to follow the developments and advocate for our members. We also have a new Ex Libris Product Manager for Digitool – Asaf Kline is now in post, and our conversations with him have been fruitful. Asaf is also the Alma Product Manager, which is very promising to DigiTool users – coordinating both products, Asaf knows how DigiTool is being used and the functionality the community [...]

Submit your favourite requests to NERS for voting now! Two voting snapshots have been taken of MetaLib CKB enhancement requests since Haifa, and 8 global with 4 local resources have been submitted to Ex Libris for addition to the knowledgebase. Emails have already been circulated to the MetaLib list, and summary information can be viewed in EL Commons. You are urged to add your resource candidates and participate in the MetaLib CKB voting in NERS. Finally, some news from Ex Libris – Jorgen Madsen is changing position from Primo Product Manager to Sales Manager for Asia & Pacific.
The initial aim of the MetaLib Next Generation Advisory Group was to discuss the overall architecture of the MetaLib next generation, with a primary focus on the metasearch/federated search backend to improve MetaLib’s performance, also in the frame of Primo MetaSearch. However in the meantime Ex Libris provided the MetaLib “current generation” with a Primo interface – known as MetaLib+. For the time being the efforts of Ex Libris are concentrated here, and the company has confirmed that they now see MetaLib+ as the “next generation” of MetaLib. As a result the Advisory Group has been wound up. Jirka Kende, IGeLU Chair
