Aleph Working Group Update

October 3, 2019
By

The Aleph WG leadership changed at the last IGeLU Conference in Singapore. Augusto Ribeiro, from University of Porto, Portugal, finished his mandate as IGeLU coordinator and Camelia Anghel, from New York University, USA, was nominated as IGeLU Aleph WG coordinator.

Based on the Aleph roadmap presented at IGeLU conference we want to make Aleph customers aware of infrastructure changes in Aleph V23.2 that offers the possibility to separate tomcat from the Aleph software tree and the ability to update tomcat without installing an Aleph service pack. Another highlight of this version is the compliance of Aleph installer with Windows 10. In Aleph v23.3 the highlights are related to the certification of Oracle 12.2 and Oracle 12.1. Those customers who want to update Oracle to version 12.2 must request ExLibris assistance, by submitting a support request.

Aleph V23.4 is a minor release planned for December 2020 and the next major release V24.0 is due in June 2022.

The Aleph WG would also like to inform Aleph customers that ExLibris will no longer be able to deliver bug fixes, enhancements, service packs and new releases for Aleph on Solaris beginning with Aleph V23.4, scheduled to be released in December 2020. In addition, Aleph sites on earlier versions of Red Hat must migrate their Aleph installations to Red Hat versions 6 or 7. Please also keep in mind that the product retirement of  Red Hat 6 is scheduled for November 30th, 2020 and that the extended life-cycle support ends at June, 30th, 2024; Red Hat 7 product retirement is scheduled for June, 30th, 2024.

The next enhancements voting cycle will start in the middle of 2020 and we encourage all customers to participate in this process by submitting those enhancements they are interested in, of which, when approved, will become available in new Aleph versions.
