8th IGeLU CONFERENCE IN BERLIN ON TRACK

The preparations for the next IGeLU conference are well on the way.
During its meeting in Berlin in March the Steering Committee visited the conference venue at the Free University Berlin and was impressed by the newly renovated Henry Ford Building, the centre of the university with its auditorium maximum with capacity of well over 1.000 attendants.Conference Venue

The building is equipped with modern conference technology and WIFI will of course be available throughout the conference. The auditorium maximum and four large lecture halls besides a number of smaller conference rooms will be at disposal for parallel sessions and meetings.

In the Henry Ford Building also the Welcome reception will take place on Saturday, September 7th, right after the INUG meeting. Also from here the guided tours through the science city of Dahlem will start, offered on Saturday before the Welcome reception and on Monday after the last conference session.
The social event will take place on Sunday, September 8th at 8pm at the Jewish museum, the most visited museum in Berlin with its imposing building by Daniel Libeskind. Guided tours through the museum will be offered at 7pm before the social event starts.

The conference programme planning is in progress. We have two keynote speakers.

  • The opening keynote will be provided by Michael Cotta-Schønberg, Director of the University Library in Copenhagen and Deputy Director of the Danish National Library (“The strategic perspective for libraries 2013”).
  • And the closing keynote will be contributed by Dr. Thorsten Koch, Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum Berlin (“The imperfect past, the insufficient present, and the absolutely perfect future”).
  • Concerning breakout sessions, we already have received quite a few proposals. Yet there are still enough free slots for anyone who has something interesting to share with the user community. So if you do, don’t hesitate and submit your proposal for a presentation or poster session at https://igelu.org/conferences/presentation-proposals

The deadline for submissions is April 30th.
