Results of the IGeLU Steering Committee elections

Goodbye

We had to say goodbye to two important IGeLU Steering Committee members in Budapest;

  • Jirka Kende, our chair, had to step down because he had served for three consecutive terms of three years each.
  • Peter Klien, chair of the conference programme planning group stepped down after serving for two consecutive terms of two years each.

Both Steering committee members have done a tremendous job for IGeLU and the community owes them many thanks. Jirka will stay on the Steering Committee for one final year as past chair. We paid him a special tribute on the last day of the Budapest conference to honor his merits and achievements for serving IGeLU nine years as Chair.

Peter will finally have more time to invest in his very busy professional and personal life. We will miss him for he was since 2013 the driving power behind the conference organisation and we have seen a ever rising quality of the conferences under his regime.

Welcome

And we are happy to welcome good new people in the Steering Committee to replace the members that stepped down;

  • Shameem Nilofar Maideen, Singapore Management University, was elected as IGeLU Steering Committee Member by the General Assembly for her first term of two years.
  • Tracey Clarke, University of Sheffield, UK, was elected as IGeLU Steering Committee Member by the General Assembly for her first term of two years.
  • Mark Dehmlow, University of Notre Dame, USA, was elected as IGeLU Steering Committee Member by the General Assembly for his third term of two years.
  • Theo Engelman, Utrecht University, Netherlands, was elected as IGeLU Chair by the General Assembly for his first term of three years.

We very much welcome Shameem and Tracey as new members and are glad to see Mark staying on the Steering Committee. It is very nice to see that with Shameem and Tracey the Steering Committee has representatives of two important regions of the world, thus adding to the strength of IGeLU as the worldwide association of Ex Libris customers
