Buying Train Tickets in Italy
Train tickets can be purchased:
- Online through the official websites Trenitalia and Italo (for high-speed trains).
- Via mobile apps like Trenitalia App, Italo App, and Omio.
- At ticket machines or ticket counters in train stations. Keep in mind that there may always be a queue in front of the ticket machines or at the counter.
Should You Buy Train Tickets in Advance?
- Regional trains (e.g., Florence or Pisa to Siena): No advance booking is needed, as these tickets are flexible and do not have assigned seats.
- High-speed trains (e.g., Rome to Florence): Advance booking is highly recommended, as prices vary and seats can sell out.
