The IGeLU SC is monitoring closely the COVID-19 outbreak and its implications for the IGeLU 2020 Conference and associated satellite Developers Day and Ex Libris Knowledge Day in September.
Many countries are now reporting cases. Many are introducing new entry restrictions. These are changing often and quickly. We are also aware that many institutions are withdrawing support for any international travel for staff. We are also hearing about other conferences being cancelled. The IGeLU Steering Committee at this stage is at a ‘wait and watch’ stage regarding the IGeLU 2020 conference. Please remember that the IGeLU 2020 conference is still 6 months away and we are hoping that the current situation is either resolved or under acceptable containment.
We will provide regular updates on the conference, but please be aware the health of our members and conference delegates is of utmost importance to us and this will guide our decision on the IGeLU 2020 conference.
However, if you plan on attending IGeLU 2020 you need to ensure that you’re informed and prepared, not just about your destination (United Kingdom), but about the countries you might need to transit through to get to the United Kingdom, and home.
In addition, we recommend all attendees follow the direct guidance of local institution policy related to funding and booking travel. In the case of event cancellation, restrictions imposed by government or institutional travel, or attendee decision not to attend the event, IGeLU are not responsible for reimbursement of travel costs.
