Founded in 2013 as a result of discussions at the 2012 Zurich conference, the goal of the SFX KnowledgeBase Advisory Board (KBAB) was to promote first class quality of the data stored in the SFX Knowledge Base by reviewing the quality assurance policies and processes together with Ex Libris. The SFX KBAB has been active from 2013 to 2015.
Things have changed and evolved to a more global approach.
Because Alma and SFX use the same KB, IGeLU and ELUNA steering committees decided to expand KBAB’s role, not to focus it only on SFX issues and to add topics related to Primo Central Index in the discussion. With the recent acquisition of Ex Libris by ProQuest, things have taken an unexpected turn… but certainly for the better!
KBAB activities comprise anything related to the management and development of the Alma and SFX knowledge base, including collaboration with other IGeLU/ELUNA groups where interests coincide. Specific consideration will also be given to the integration within ProQuest and how separate ProQuest and Ex Libris knowledge bases will merge, evolve into next generation KBs and develop in the future.
Through collaboration with Ex Libris, KBAB acts to ensure that data stored in the knowledge base is of the highest quality by reviewing the KB’s quality assurance policies and processes; and to make suggestions for improvements that ensure customers’ permanent influence on the quality of the KB.
The new KBAB is now composed of 10 members, experienced e-resources managers and Ex Libris product administrators, of IGeLU and ELUNA members, coming from Belgium, Germany, Israel, Norway and the USA.
Co-chaired by one ELUNA member (Marina Oliver) and one IGeLU member (Francois Renaville), the new KBAB will start its activities on behalf of the Alma, SFX, Primo and PCI user communities in March 2016.
