The Future of Library Technology: Trends and Innovations

Presenters

  • Pawel Szponar CCLC

This presentation will explore emerging trends and innovations in library technology, and their potential impact on libraries in the coming years with a specific focus on how those technologies can be leveraged via the Ex Libris ALMA\PRIMO LSP for most positive impact for our students and staff.
We will begin with an overview of the key technological trends currently shaping the library landscape, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and open source software, as well as provide examples of what’s being done in those areas within ALMA. We will then examine specific examples of how libraries are leveraging these technologies to improve services, streamline operations, and enhance the patron experience. We will also discuss emerging technologies and innovations that have the potential to transform the library landscape, including blockchain, virtual and augmented reality, and the internet of things with a specific focus on APIs and technologies that can be adapted and utilized via ALMA\PRIMO. Through case studies and examples, we will explore how libraries can prepare for and adapt to these new technologies. We will conclude with a discussion of best practices for implementation including considerations for staff training, vendor partnerships, and long-term planning and investment.

Agile working to adapt the usability of swisscovery

Presenters

  • Fabiano Fiero SLSP (Swiss Library Service Platform)
  • Nikol Stepan SLSP (Swiss Library Service Platform)

Thanks to good experiences in the past, the Swiss Library Service Platform (SLSP) decided to keep on working with an agile approach for preparing its view (swisscovery) for the go-live of Rapido. This presentation aims to show how this agile approach was structured, its advantages and its limits, and how this allowed the team to both work on the re-design of the view and, at the same time, fulfill the stakeholders’ punctual requests. The speakers will also describe the benefits of the method of prototyping to support the iterative process.

Experiences with Search webhook @LIBISnet

Presenters

  • Veerle Kerstens KU Leuven

LIBIS manages a library network — LIBISnet — that includes a university library, college libraries, documentation centers of Government institutions, and more.  Every institution has its own Primo view.  These views provide access to diverse content, from library catalogues, CDI, digitized heritage collections, research publications to archival materials.  Two of these sources can be searched via “Third node” or Search Webhook.
This presentation will discuss, in a non-technical talk, why we chose to implement Search Webhook, how it was implemented, the possibilities and limits it offers for us, the difficulties we met, and the solutions or workarounds we implemented.
