The IGeLU Steering Committee (SC) has made some tough decisions around the IGeLU 2020 conference and we have decided that under the current pandemic situation we need to cancel the IGeLU Wales 2020 Conference. We feel that under the current situation that this is the prudent option to ensure the safety of our members, delegates and the Welsh and our own local communities. We will instead be running the IGeLU 2020 Conference and Developers Day as a virtual online conference.
We did examine the following options
- Continue with the September conference
- Postpone the September conference to either late October or early November
- No conference in 2020
- Run the September event as a virtual conference
Due to the uncertainties around the current COVID-19 pandemic and associated recession we felt that Options 1 and 2 were not viable. Instead, as we are now operating in a new environment and a new way of doing things, we decided that the best option is Option 4 – running the 2020 event as a virtual conference during the week of the 14th September 2020.
We are still working through the logistics on delivering the conference as an on-line event and we will provide you all with more information over the next couple of months.
